Eligibility Criteria
Prospective candidates must pass rigorous academic, leadership, and socioeconomic criteria:
- Must be a citizen of and currently residing in a Sub-Saharan African country.
- Applicants holding dual citizenship, permanent residency, refugee, or asylee status within Canada, the US, the UK, or the EU are not eligible.
- Must be 35 years old or younger at the time of your application submission.
- Must hold an undergraduate degree closely matching the targeted graduate program and satisfy McGill’s strict minimum admission benchmarks. Note: Candidates with a First-Class Honours degree or its institutional equivalent have a significantly higher probability of acceptance.
- You must never have previously registered for or completed a Master’s degree program.
- Must show a proven track record of volunteerism, civic engagement, or exceptional service leadership within your school or wider community.
- Must demonstrate clear financial constraints that restrict your ability to pursue international graduate-level education independently.
Application Timeline
McGill utilizes a unique selection protocol. You must apply for the scholarship first. Candidates who apply directly to a standard academic course at McGill without going through the pre-screening phase will not be considered for the award.
