The University of Pretoria, through its renowned Centre for Human Rights, is inviting exceptional African students to apply for the 2026 LLM/MPhil in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa (HRDA). This unique, one-year intensive program includes a six-month residency in Pretoria followed by a six-month placement at one of 12 partner universities across the continent.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the 2026 cohort, you must demonstrate:
- First degree in Law (LLB, licence en droit, or licenciatura em direito) or a relevant Honours degree.
- A proven professional or academic interest in human rights and democratization in Africa.
- Vision of how you will use this qualification to benefit your home country (the “multiplier effect”).
- The committee prioritizes geographic balance, gender equity, and the representation of vulnerable groups (including persons with disabilities and indigenous communities).
- Proficiency in English is required; students who studied in other languages must provide proof of English ability (TOEFL/IELTS).

How to Apply for University of Pretoria LLM Scholarship 2026

- Note that you apply for admission and the scholarship simultaneously.

- After your application is processed, the Program Coordinator will contact you to complete a timed essay, video, or audio recording on a specific human rights topic.
- The full Admissions Committee reviews all materials and assessments to select the final 25-30 candidates.
