Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the 2027 cycle, you must:
- Maintain a GPA of at least 2.30/3.00 in your current or most recent degree program.
- You must demonstrate strong English skills through one of the following:
- Scores corresponding to CEFR B2 or higher (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL, or TOEIC).
- Evidence that your previous degree program was taught entirely in English.
- You must be a non-Japanese citizen eligible for a Japanese student visa.
Required Documents
Prepare the following files in advance to ensure a smooth application process:
- MEXT Application Form provided by the university.
- A detailed “Field of Study and Study Program” proposal (must highlight research relevance).
- Official transcripts for all years of your previous university studies (include the grading scale) and your (prospective) graduation certificate.
- A copy of your passport or official national identification.
- A formal recommendation letter from your current Dean (or higher level) addressed to the President of Hokkaido University.
- A concise abstract of your previous Master’s or Bachelor’s thesis.
- Certificates confirming your English proficiency.
