NECO 2026 Exam Overview and Dates
The National Examinations Council has scheduled the 2026 June/July SSCE to kick off in Mid July 2026 and run through July 2026.
Unlike the November/December GCE designed for private candidates, this mid-year session is strictly for school-based candidates currently in Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3).

Important Information – NECO Examination/Timetable Rules
Schools and Candidates are to take note of the following:
- It is mandatory that each candidate has a photocard for identification during the examination.
- Where the time on the question paper differs from the time on this timetable, the time on the question paper should be strictly adhered to.
- For physical education practical paper I; french, music and arabic paper IV, the specific venues for the examination should be confirmed from NECO state offices.
- Practicals in sciences and computer studies can be in sets where the number of candidates is large and the equipment cannot go round.
- Visual arts paper IV (creative design) should be given to candidates at least one week before the examination date
- Nigerian languages (Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba) include literature aspect
- Albinos and blind candidates are to be allowed 30 extra minutes at the end of each subject
- Blind candidates must make use of the NECO supplied OBR customised braille sheet for the examination.
- Use of scientific calculator is allowed
- Bringing into the examination hall electronic communication gadgets (programmable calculators, mobile phones, ipads, tablets, smart wrist watches & glasses & pens) is strictly prohibited
- Candidates who do not sit for Practicals (PAPER 1) will not have result in the subject
- Candidates should note that the trade subjects questions are hybrid in nature
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Ques: When will the 2026 June/July NECO results be out?
Ans: The National Examinations Council should release the internal SSCE results within 90 days of the final paper’s completion.
Ques: Can I use my NECO results alongside WAEC for university admission?
Ans: Yes. Most Nigerian universities accept a combination of WAEC and NECO results (known as two sittings) for admission purposes, provided the subject combinations align with your course requirements in the JAMB brochure.
Ques: What happens if two of my subjects clash on the timetable?
Ans: Internal candidates should report this layout issue to their school’s examination board immediately.
